Can Zapponi & Perry's monster sack be repeated on the delta this weekend?
RIO VISTA, Ca. – Brannon Island State Park, located just east of Rio Vista on the California delta, will be the site selected to replace the “North State Rumble” venue previously scheduled for Shasta Lake, which if you think about it, is not a bad deal at all as early May can absolutely be one of the most productive times of the year for this massive waterway.
Just ask Pat Zapponi and Andrew Perry who, fishing a Future Pro Tour event on the same exact day in May of 2008, managed to – on camera, wrestle in a 5-fish limit of bass that weighed just shy of 40 pound in a strong one-hundred and seventy five boat field. “The swimbait bite that May was “off the hook”, Pat and Andrew were quoted as saying, as during the event, they actually caught fish that went nine pounds and eleven pounds - on back to back casts.
And as one of the goals of the Future Pro Tour is to help prepare it’s participating anglers for the sudden changes and adverse challenges they will surely face when moving on to the next level competition, this untimely change will serve well in helping FPT anglers fortify their competitive resolve when confronting change in future competitive angling endeavors.
“I was definetely looking forward to the Shasta event and was a bit disappointed that we had to move it”, noted Fred Fullerton, a veteran FPT competitor that hails from Esparta, California. But if you are going to be a competitive angler you have to learn to adapt to any and all changes you are confronted with. Trust me, my partner (Pat Mateo) and I will be ready come delta time”.
Another thing that FPT anglers can be happy about concerning this change in venue is that Brannon Island State Park is a huge facility, with parking that can accommodate over 200 trailers, and a 10-lane launch ramp that will easily handle the large crowd of participants expected. In addition, Brannon Island State Park sits close to many of the prime fishing areas the delta has to offer including parts of the main San Joaquin river system, Sherman Island, and the popular Fisherman’s Cut area, to name a few.
With the sudden change in venue, traditional activities such as our pre-registration seminar will not be available for the event so if you would like to sign up, call the FPT offices, and we will get you registered. Late signups for this event will be available on Saturday morning at the ramp, where limited membership fees of just $5 per angler will be available.
For those of you coming from a long way off that are looking for lodging, B&W Resort is a great place to stay and is located just 10 mins from Brannon Island State Park. They feature cabins that have kitchens, outdoor BBQ grills, and units that sleep up to 8 persons still available at rates starting at $70! Call early for accommodations at (916-777-6161) before rooms are all gone.
So for you that are looking for another venue that is close to home, at a great time of year, that could produce some monster bass, come out and join us for another exciting FPT event!
And don’t tell anybody else…but I heard that some guys are absolutely killin’ em of Snag Proof Frogs! (Shhhhhh…please keep that to yourself)
See you there!
